Yogurt, the star ingredient in this recipe, is renowned for its health benefits. Packed with probiotics, yogurt promotes a healthy gut and aids digestion. It’s also a great source of calcium, protein, and essential vitamins. By choosing Greek yogurt as the base for your frozen treat, you’re adding even more protein to your dessert, which can help keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Compared to traditional ice cream, homemade classic frozen yogurt is a lighter and healthier option. It contains less fat and fewer calories, making it a guilt-free indulgence. Plus, you have control over the sweetness level by varying your choice of sweetener and the amount you use. With homemade frozen yogurt, you can enjoy a refreshing and satisfying treat without compromising your health goals.
To make this delectable frozen yogurt, simply gather plain Greek yogurt, honey, and vanilla extract for extra flavour. Of course, this is a simple recipe highlighting the yogurt itself but as you can see from the other recipes I’ve posted, the possibilities are almost endless. Blend everything together until well incorporated, and then let your ice cream maker work its magic. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, simply freeze the mixture in a container, stirring it occasionally to achieve a smooth consistency.
After a few hours in the freezer, your homemade classic frozen yogurt is ready to be enjoyed guilt-free. Scoop it into bowls or cones and enjoy it in its natural glory. Alternatively top it with fresh fruit, a spoonful of granola, or sprinkles of your choice for added loveliness. Relish each creamy spoonful knowing that you’re treating yourself to a healthier dessert option.

Homemade Classic Frozen Yogurt Recipe

Homemade Classic Frozen Yogurt
Equipment
- 1 Ice Cream Maker Optional (See recipe for a simple, manual alternative)
- 1 Resealable, freezer-safe container At least 1lt in size
- 1 Stick blender wt whisk Or hand whisk
Ingredients
- 625 grams Greek yogurt (Full fat is best)
- 110 grams Honey (Or 135 g caster/ superfine sugar)
- 2 tsp Vanilla extract
Instructions
Prep
- Weigh/ measure out your ingredients
To Make
- Place all of the ingredients into a large bowl and whisk well for 2-3 minutes. Alternatively, use a food mixer or a stick blender with a whisk attachment and mix for 1 minute on a medium high speed
- If using an ice cream maker, follow the user guidelines for best result then either eat immediately or place into a resealable, freezer-safe container and store in the freezer
- If making this recipe without an ice cream maker, scrape the mixed ingredients into a resealable, freezer-safe container and place in the freezer for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, remove and mix well with a spatula or spoon making sure to scrape down the sides of the container. Repeat this process every 30 minutes until the desired consistency is reached. Serve immediately or store in freezer
To Serve
- If storing in the freezer rather than serving immediately, remove 10-15 minutes (depending on your ambient temperature) prior to serving to allow the frozen yogurt to soften a little
Notes
- Whatever recipe you are making, get into the habit of tasting it at various points. Just because the creator of a recipe thinks a dish should be a certain way doesn’t mean you have to agree. After step 1 of the ‘To Make’ section taste it. If you think it needs a little more honey or vanilla then add it here and mix again. The more experienced you get with any recipe or any style of cooking, the more you will trust your own palate. I’m a firm believer that when you make a recipe it becomes yours to adjust and play with. Sure, certain recipes require precise measurements for technical reasons but flavour is subjective and personal. Never be afraid to make a recipe your own or to use it as a starting point for an entirely new creation.
